Three for Thursday: Christmas Comes Early

TFT
Christmas will be upon us before we know it! Every crafter knows that you need to get a jump on all of your Christmas makes if you are going to prepared for the holiday season. It won’t be long before summer is over and our thoughts turn to the Winter holiday season. However, that doesn’t mean that you cannot be prepared in advance! The Stampin’ Up! Clearance rack has some amazing offers right now of Christmas products at unbelievable prices! That’s why this week, Three for Thurday is focusing on those Christmas bargains!

1 – We Have Washi All Wrapped Up!

There are currently four sets of Christmas/Winter themed washi on the clearance rack. The packs contain 5 rolls of 4.6m Washi Tape in 3 different widths. These usually retail at £7.25, but during clearance you can pick up each of the packs for just £2.90 per set! That’s an amazing saving of 60%!

Washi

Choose from the following options:

  • Seasons of Cheer :- Although this is a seasonal design, the Seasons of Cheer washi tape could actually be used all year round as it features stripes, spots and quilted designs in Cherry Cobbler, Hello Honey, Mossy Meadow, Pear Pizzazz, and Soft Sky.
  • Warmth & Cheer – Again, there is no reason this design wouldn’t be used outside of the Holiday season. Only the Christmas tree design is truly seasonal and even then it works as a woodland themed tape. I think Warmth & Cheer is great if you celebrate Yule rather than Christmas. The colours are Basic Black, Cherry Cobbler, Crumb Cake, and  Garden Green.
  • Presents & Pinecones – With its Candy Cane stripes and sprigs of holly, the Presents & Pinecones set is a much more in your face Christmas choice making use of  Cherry Cobbler, Delightful Dijon, Emerald Envy and Mint Macaron
  • Candy Cane Lane – The final choice is Candy Cane Lane, a real red and whisper white set with a candy cane theme!

If you love the washi tape, then you will also want to look at this bargain Designer Series Paper! The Warmth & Cheer paper pad contains 48 sheets of double sided 6 by 6 inch paper in 12 different designs for the bargain price of only £3.60 instead of the regular price of £9! Memories in my Pocket Workshop

Workshop02

Registration is now open for my next online workshop. The theme for this month is ‘Memories in my Pocket’ and it will be focused on Memory Keeping in the Project Life/Pocket Pages style. This is a great way to make use of all of those family photos if you find that you do not have the time, space or desire to scrapbook. All you have to do is make small decorative cards – or use pre-made cards combined with photographs and you can create beautiful pages to preserve those memories forever. The ring bound design also makes it easy to rearrange pages meaning you do not need to work in chronological order!

workshop3

The workshop will take place from 2nd until 4th June 2017 and is conducted entirely online. However, I will post out a physical kit of supplies for you to work with. Over the course of the workshop, we will be creating 3 complete Pocket Pages. We will also cover a variety of related mini-projects including journaling tips, dating your layouts, making your own cards and other ways to use your cards. We will also have a raffle, some fun games and the ever popular Bingo game! You do not have to be online for the whole workshop and the activities will be available for a minimum of 3 weeks afterwards, but you will get the most from your experience if you join in with the fun!

The kit will include :

  • 1 x 6×8 inch Ring Bound Album
  • 3 x Pocket Page Sleeves
  • Die-Cuts (shapes and labels)
  • Embellishments (mini paper clips, enamel shapes, metallic threads)
  • Washi Tape Samples

Quick & Easy Monochrome Card – #TeamieTuesdays

TeamieTues

Welcome back to another Teamie Tuesday here are Scarlet Moon Crafts. This week our theme was ‘For Him’, but I didn’t have any of the traditionally male Stampin’ Up Products on hand. So I decided to show you a quick and easy way to make a unisex card using monochrome!

TT_ForHim

My son is sitting his Highers this month so I made him a wee card to wish him good luck. I’m using the Pop of Pink suite, but focusing on the black and the gold in the suite as it’s for a boy! I’ve also made a matching envelope using the Envelope Punch Board.

If you are interested in trying out the Stampin’ Up! products featured here or any other products for yourself then take a look at my online shop – the hostess code for  May is BKRT3VQV and anyone ordering more than £25 using the code gets a free gift.

Three For Thursday: Let’s Hear It For The Boys!

TFT

Welcome back to another Three for Thurdsay post here at Scarlet Moon Crafts. This week I am turning my attention to the boys! I have my teenager’s 17th birthday looming and my husband is about to graduate university – not to mention Father’s day is fast approaching! Have you ever noticed that it can be tough to find gorgeous craft supplies for adult male cards and projects? I am like a little magpie drawn to bright colours and glitter so my stash needs a serious testosterone injection. I have sat down with a cuppa and the Stampin’ Up! catalogue and found some wonderful products for male projects. These are my top three!

3 – Bookcase Builder Stamp Set

This is not necessarily a male orientated set, but I think the Bookcase Builder Stamp Set is a great option if you want to make a card for a male friend or relative. It is ideal for building up a bookcase to replicate his office or man-cave, but it is versatile enough that you can make a card for just about anyone. It is also great for new home or new job cards!

2 – One Wild Ride Stamp Set

These One Wild Ride Stamps are great for making male cards and projects, even if the man in your life is not a biker. You could also use them to document bike shows, trips to the transport museum or even road trips. This is a two step stamp set which means that you can build up the image your way!

1 – Urban Underground Suite

Urban Underground

My top pick for this week is the Urban Underground Suite. Sometimes it is really hard to find a nice ‘male’ or at least gender neutral kit that is not for kids. I think the Urban Underground Suite really hits the nail on the head – if you pardon the pun! The core colours are Basic Black, Basic Grey, Delightful Dijon and Very Vanilla with a touch of silver foil. Although the overriding theme of the set is actually construction and father’s day, the patterns on the paper are geometric and would actually work well for any occasion and any gender. I’ve seen it paired with the Beautiful You Stamp Set for a really feminine card too, so it is really versatile.

Spring Treat Box With Stampin’ Up! #TeamieTuesdays

TeamieTues

Welcome back to another edition of Teamie Tuesdays, where the Ugly Bug Stampin’ Up Team get together and create a new project using the same theme. It’s a great way to see all of the different ways that Stampin’ Up products can be used. This week our theme is ‘Spring’. That is a pretty open ended theme and it means different things to different people. I sat down to think about what spring means to me. We just recently celebrated Ostara which is all about the rebirth of the Earth. The weather starts improving, the days get longer and new growth starts to sprout in our gardens and green spaces. We celebrate with symbols of this like Eggs, Rabbits and Flowers. School just broke up for Spring Break and the clocks have gone forward too. Before we know is Easter is going to be upon us! Spring has well and truly sprung!

Even although we have already shared our chocolate eggs on Ostara, I know plenty of people will be doing so on Easter Sunday instead, so I am sharing this tutorial for making a cute little Egg Box which makes a lovely little Easter gift. It fits 2 standard chocolate eggs – Creme Egg, Lindor Egg, Caramel Egg etc.

EggBox01

Easter Egg Duo Gift Box

I am using DSP from the Festive Birthday range because they are so bright and colourful! You will need one piece of paper measuring 6 inches by 6 inches and also the Envelope Punch Board. The only other items you need for this are your choice of adhesive and any embellishments that you want to use.

EggBox02

The first step is to punch and score our paper. Your starting size is 6 inches by 6 inches, so you will be able to get 4 boxes out of a single sheet of 12 by 12 DSP. Start by lining your paper up at 1.5 inches on your Envelope Punch Board and punch the edge. You then score the paper at this setting too.

EggBox03

Rotate your paper 45 degrees and line it up at 3 inches. Once again, Punch and score the paper at this setting. You are then going to repeat both of those steps on the other two sides of the paper.

So, to summarise :-

  1. Side 1 is punched and scored at 1.5 inches.
  2. Side 2 is punched and scored at 3 inches.
  3. Side 3 is punched and scored at 1.5 inches.
  4. Side 4 is punched and scored at 3 inches.

EggBox04

Once the first punches have been completed this is were it gets slightly tricky as we need to make a second punch on each side of the paper. Your envelope punch board has a little indicator on the punch that you would normally use to line up your envelopes. What you need to do is line up the score lines with this indicator and then punch. Do this on each side of the paper.

EggBox05

EggBox06

Now flip your punch board around and use the reverse punch to round off the edges of the two largest ‘points’ on your paper.

EggBox07

Now we need to make a couple of cuts in the paper in order to allow us to construct our little boxes. If you look at the smaller ends of the shape you will see that the scoring has created tabs. On each of these you need to make one cut along the score line. It doesn’t really matter which direction you go, but do make sure that all four are the same direction. Personally I make the cuts on the longer side.

EggBox08

Fold these tabs and use your favourite adhesive – snail or fast fuse is ideal – and secure the tabs inside the box. You now have your basic box shape!

EggBox09

You can use your choice of embellishments to decorate the boxes. I have added Bright Enamel Shapes and a little tag stamped in Flirty Flamingo using the Birthday Fiesta Stamp Set.

EggBox10

Now all that is left is to pop your eggs in and secure the boxes shut. You can glue them or use magnetic tape or even velcro – the choice is yours!

EggBox11 EggBox12

Easy Cards Using a Sketch #TeamieTuesdays

TeamieTues

This week, our Teamie Tuesdays challenge is to take the sketch chosen by Michelle and create a card of our choosing using any Stampin’ Up! products. Sketches are a really great way to get your  creative juices flowing as it can inspire you to create a really pretty card. If you find yourself lacking in inspiration, then I highly recommend heading to Pinterest and searching ‘Card Sketches’. I’ve pinned a load onto a board on my own account too. You can check that out here.

Anyway, I love the sketch that Michelle picked out for this week. It is lots of simple geometric shapes and it is a great way to use up some scraps of paper too! The Triple Banner Punch is an excellent tool for making the banner on the bottom layer and if you struggle to cut your own circles, then I would suggest the 2 inch Circle Punch. I am waiting on mine arriving, so I just drew around a roll of packing tape and fussy cut it.

43667778b31fe252b6afe13fbf2735b2

As I said, this particular card is really great if you want to use up some of your scrap paper. I had some off cuts of Dapper Denim designer series paper and envelope paper left over from other projects, so I decided on a blue theme. I am using a half sheet of Whisper White A4 folded in half to create the base of my card.

You can see all of the pieces below that are required for this card – I added the bow just for a little bit of 3D effect on the finished card. It is also made from scraps.

27March_Starts

Below you can see the step by step process of layering up the pieces of the card, starting with the banner, adding the piece with the angled edge, then the strip and finally the circle. I started off by laying out the pieces where I wanted them and then putting a little pencil mark on the edge where they sit so that I knew where to add them.

27MArch_process

I had originally made the bow to decorate the parcel that was going along with the card, but I decided to add it to the card instead just as a little additional interest point and a little more dimension. I also added some hand lettering in the bottom corner using a gold gel pen.

27March_done

The finished card went perfectly with one of the envelopes that I made for last week’s Teamie Tuesday post! I am really pleased with the end result. It is a really versatile card. You could use it for any occasion and using any colours. All you would need to do is add an appropriate sentiment!

27March_finished
